Received 6 ~3" WC individuals about a month ago. After some conditioning (=stuffing), I moved them into a 55g a week ago. One pair immediately formed, and later a second pair. They each took over one side of the tank, with the two "extras" stuck in the middle. Well, and a pair of orangeheads holding their own fry....but that's another story :D

Walked up to the tank this morning and saw a big clutch of eggs on a river rock, and a pair of red ceibals guarding the eggs. Both are in beautiful breeding dress.

There is a piece of driftwood and tons of floating plants above the eggs. I read that the parents may hang the wigglers on plants or dw... I guess we'll see in the next few days.

How long would it take for the eggs to hatch, and anything I should/shouldn't do? Any advice and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :)

Congrats Peter!!! They really are a cool little fish. The convicts of the south.

Now you just need a bunch to live so you can mail me an Jamie a bag of fry:D!!!

Thanks JD :). I do hope they would breed often - they look so much better in breeding dress.

Seriously running out of room tho. The 55 is my only nursery, with 4 breeding pairs in queue...very difficult to juggle around....

The only tank I can raise the fry in is a 20 with ~20 2" EBJDs in there which, to my disappointment, just wouldn't die...I recently added a 5" NGT and was secretly hoping that it would snack on the EBJDs...but they are still all there :(. Anybody wants the the whole lot?

Need pics Peter.....

Understand. Vacuum them out early and take them to Ken. I would gladly pay shipping and a little extra for a bag of new swimmers if they make it. I have plenty of fry space at the moment.

I just like the barred pattern on them. Mix in a little red and you have winner in my book.

That's what I've been doing, but I feel that I'm missing half of the fun :(
