Could you keep a pair of Australoheros oblongus or red ceibal . With two different types of gymnos, Gymnogenys, Meridionalis,
in a 50-75 gal.

My breeding Oblongum pair are fine in a 36" 46g tank with other tank mates and barely care about them. Oblongum can withstand same temps as Ceibals IME.

Jworth has a breeding pair of Red Ceibals in his 6' tank and they use 4' of tank and seem alot more aggresive t othrt tankmates and keep them pinned in the corner.

I have a pair of Red Ceibal in with some gymnogenys-type called "Blue Valentine"... the Gymnos don't breed because of the chanchitos...

I have a couple of big male oblongum with some Gymnos and they all seem to get along. Gymnos even breed in the tank.

I've heard oblongum are native to southern Brazil but haven't been able to verify this. Mine don't breed at the low temps that my Red Ceibal do (which are from central Uruguay...much further south)...

By the way, there are as many different chanchitos as there are bodies of water in Uruguay (and a lot of Argentina and Southern Brazil). There are only a couple in the hobby (red ceibal - that's farmed - and oblongum - that's floating around the hobby). You can get other ones through fishfarm or a few other folks...

They sure do. I wouldnt recommend them for a heavily stocked tank with more peaceful gymnos. I couldnt imagine my breeding pair in a smaller tank with other fish. It would be a disaster Im afraid.
