wow, great link. Looks like an awesome setup. Unfortunately there's no way i can get all those parts. Most online sellers dont deliver to this country.

Guess i'm destined to use buckets forever! 40% WC on a 140g tank.......

One thing I thought about doing was this.

Drill the tank for the drain and put a solenoid on it, then run a water line and put a solenoid on it. Then hook them both to timers, then have a very small dosing pump or aqualifter connected to prime also on a timer.

You set the drain timer to open however long it takes to drain the tank, "you will have to time it the first time" Then you have the dosing pump come on after the draining is complete, and finally the fill line come on. you would have to time all of these operations the first time so you know how long it takes. I would also have the fill line set to stop just before its done, and fill the last little bit by hand just to be safe.

Or

you could have a large water storage tank with pre dechlorinated water and have a pump on a timer.

You could still setup and automatic water changing system, but it will require some manual involvement. You could set up an aging barrel that refills automatically with a float valve. This would then require you to manually add Prime for the amount of water in the barrel.

The water change can then be done automatically via a pump on a timer. You could have a pump set to turn on and pump water to the tank, then let gravity drain the excess water out of the sump. Then when the barrel refills, add the Prime once again.

Or you could go for a semi-automatic setup, check my 190g discus tank in my sig for details on that. Just because you can't find a chloramine filter or auto-doser doesn't mean you're stuck using buckets. Just gotta get a little creative :)

After 3hours of driving around Dubai, i managed to find a test kit that tests for Chlorine and Chloramine.

Once opened i saw 3 test kits, one for chlorine and 2 for Ammonia testing, after a quick 'huh?' i read the instructions and it said that if Chlorine AND ammonia are present, then Chloramines are present. So i went ahead and tested my tap water. Results are - Chlorine .25-.50ppm and Ammonia shows .0ppm. So This means i have no Chloramines present....... Great! Makes the Auto WC's SO much easier to set up (and cheaper!)

Now onto the next problem....... Heat.

As some of you may know, during the summer months in UAE, temps rise to around 45-50 degrees celcius (100-120 degrees F). Most of us live in apartment blocks, and because of this the water tanks are usually on the roof. Direct sunlight all day. During these months, there is no cold water in the taps. I dont even use the water heater as the cold water is by far warm enough to take a shower/bath if run long enough.

Do you think if i had a WC system setup to change a whole tanks worth of water weekly, running 24/7, the tank will get too hot?

Do you think the distance from the water source and the tank (about 4meters worth of plumbing) and the drip system will be enough to cool it down?

Maybe i need to add some kind of DIY chiller system to cool the water down?

Feedback please........:)
