Automatic Feeder

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Eheim also make a twin compartment feeder. It is not as common as the unit in the link above and is more expensive. I had it and it was awesome. Lots of configuration options (amount / feed times / frequencies)
It can house more food as well.

Worked flawlessly for ages till my pearsei got impatient and dragged the whole thing in the water. They had about 1 weeks food at once. Amazed he actually dragged it down would not of been easy. Of its useless now as well.

Anyway I recommend the twin eheim one. Though the single one will do the job well enough.

That sucks! I had to use some industrial strength velcro on the base of my auto-feeder because my oscar tried to do the same thing.

Hello; Noy sure if they are currently available but around twelve years ago I had to be away for several months and only able to come home for weekends. I got inexpensive battery powered feeders that worked out very well. They were maybe $10 -$15 back then. They worked from the same mechanism that operates battery powered wall clocks. They would dump twice a day and had some coarse adjustment. I found that the batteries would last well over a month.
The trick is to set a feeder up several days to a week before leaving to work out the kinks. Mine were dumping food onto the tank cover at first. I also had to play with the food mix in order to find a type that feed well in the hopper.
I had to be away for three weeks at one point and the feeders worked well with no loss of fish.
For only six days I would not fool with a feeder at all. I have left tanks that long and longer a few times with few problems.
I strongly suggest that you do not get anyone without experience to feed your fish.
I give a tank a decent cleaning before leaving and feed a tad more the day I leave. While feeders can work, there is always a slight potential for issues while away. I was lucky and my feeders worked well over a period of two years.
