I can't say this is what I would personally go with, but I do have give you credit for some awesome innovation. My 300 (in the works) is going to be drilled for the gravity outlets with a constant feed in, but that's because I don't want to have to rely on pumps.

If you can get past that, I think it's brilliant.

Look at the Undergravel-Overflow-Input with pushing jet flushing concept I have in my tank. So far I think that's the only way to clean gravel with out getting your hands wet and it works GREAT! specially with a settling tank. Although the tilted flooring concept to direct all the dirt didn't work, I believe you can still apply that in your settling tank with a little bitt of pushing jets, so that when the valves drain for water change the dirt goes first. It will just be a matter of automating the return valves and you will have yourself a clean gravel as well!!
 
Man Arl that's one long thread. I think I'm going to do an undergravel reverse flow. I've got the details in my head, I'm going to go out this weekend to see if I can dig up the parts. I wish I knew about these a few months ago when the tank was empty, this would have been soo much easier then.

Awesome. I'm with you on the automation. Really looking into it for my 4000 gal build. Also putting in a RUGF of my own. I'll be looking to see what you do with it and your results as well.
 
all i have to say is "Damn, now that took some doing."
 
Nice clean work and the cost helps with budgeting and planning for others who wish to try the same thing.
