Avail of Certain Cichla? (azul, kels)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
As long as there is a band on export, places like Taiwan or Singapore will find ways to captive bred them for $$$$. I truely believe the majority of the cichla on the market are captive bred and hybrid. Nothing wrong with that. It's like owning a beautiful poi dog (mix bred).
When the bahias (F1) first hit the market eighteen months ago the price for them was $$$$$. Many predicted that the price will drop once the market was flooded and they were right. They're everywhere. I feel the same with brokos. So these are not flavor of the month but overstocked flavors. One thing for sure is WC will never go out of style and exotic flavors like azul, xingu, .....will be desired by many including me.

Bahia is a state of Brazil, not a brand of kelberi's. The parents of the these F????( whatever) are from the state of Bahia in Brazil. Regardless of were the Bahia's are from, Nothing can beat the Wild caught Kelberi's that Jeff Rapps brought in.

I don't see wild caught Kelberis being readily available compared to bahia's. And the only Kelberi I seen that sold for $1000 was (Scatophous) <---spelling. The reason why he sold it for that much is because it was 1 out of 2 kelberi's in the U.S.

As for the "Hot" flavor of the month, I would have to go with Peruvian Mono's, Broko's Ocell's, and I guess Bahia's (I'm not a big fan of Bahia's). Wild Kelberi's (2nd and 4th Jeff Rapps batches are my flavor of the year) along with Azuls, pinima's and if possible, Xingu's, 24k Ceara's and Rio Negro Orino's.

Those rio negro orinos are sweet. I like the venz orinos as well. Anyone know when jeff will have more kels in? or where to get any nice kels? After seeing pics comparing, i would prefer not to get the bahias. Nice fish, but those solid gold ones seem cleaner.

PWMIN, i wasnt aware people are breeding most of the other rare types? or were you saying breeding season as in new WC's will start to become more available?

True that Ken-D, you can't replace a good looking Poi dog. I have to agree that the market is flooded with bahia's, You can find a bahia easy, Now, were did all the broko's, Peruvian mono's, Guyana and Guiana ocells go to. Those are also ones I wouldn't mind owning again.

George from Shark Aquarium has some cichla in, I think Snookn21 also has some. I'm not to sure though.
