Nice pick-up fishmamma! I swear that these poor ripped up fish 'see us coming', and they look at us with those *'please save me, love me, take me home...big fishy eyes'*, and we are taken in! Almost as silly as bringing home the only 'Charlie Brown Christmas Tree' in the whole lot, just because we feel sorry for it, and figure no one else will take it home, so then we do! Your newly adopted fish looks very cute.:D Sure hope he continues to get along with the rest of your gang there. Good Luck!:D

Actually, this is my first official rescue.. but because I liked him too.. :D

I noticed he was being all 'Rico Suave' with my female Acara, then I noticed her breeding tub dropped just a little!!:WHOA: (not sure how I feel about it).. Does that mean they might 'do it'??

I dont get why everybodys cons on here spawn so much Ive had mine since around christmas, theyve spawned twice

Water params? and water change frequency? size of tank and tank mates? something is not right... do you leave the fry in with the parents?

Possible. Cons love to hybridize.

If that's true, then I'm doing something wrong, too... I had 3 female Convicts - 2 of which laid eggs every week (no male to help things along). My third female has never once laid eggs, and she was 1.25" when I got her back in November. It's May, and she's still never laid an egg, and she's now probably 3". There are also Severums in there, some which I expect are probably male - too young to see markings). She's in perfect health, and is a *beautiful* fish (despite my really bad pic of her).

Tanks 125g, filtrations an FX5, water changes are small, and *very* frequent (3-4 days), with larger being monthly. Ammonia 0, Nitrites 0, Nitrates 5ppm, temp 80-82. Food is a mix of veggies, NLS pellets, frozen bloodworms, frozen beefheart, frozen bring shrimp, cichlid crisps, and dried seaweed.

So what am I doing wrong?

yea i have a small breeding pair of convicts who's army of fry have started migrated outwards in the tank. those parents are so damn protective. its cool seeing them double team larger fish trying to steal a snack

@Dissy, sorry can't answer your question, cause I just don't know.. sounds like what your doing to great for any fish... Wait, is that a male? I'm just saying, because the females in my observation are a little more roundish looking...

I wanted to comment on how beautiful your con is..

Nothing. If there are no males and 3 females, the third female won't lay eggs. There is no other con to pair up with, so she won't lay eggs.

Yep. Cons are literally the rabbits of the fish world. All you have to really do is 1) add water 2) add male 3) add female......

That's about it. Temp, chemistry and tankmates are up to you. By far one of the easiest fish to breed. As a matter of fact, it's harder to get them NOT to breed.....

Add one male and fasten your seatbelts
