average discus behavior/agression??

Adult discus you may be seeing a discus trying to pair up this will bring out a picking tendency in the fish, the male will guard the female and bush the others away. Male will remain close to the female. If this is going on it is an experience you will charish and all natural for them.

What size are your discus? Most recomend atleast 10g per discus. If yours are juvi your need to feed more and doin 100% water change everyday. A 55 can hold 5-6 adults. What your seeing is normal if all of them area getting the same.amount of food they.should be finish

How often do you feed the juvenile? Most suggest yoou feed them 5-6 times a day. With That many feeding and how clean juvenile demands their water to be 100% a day is what most breeder do to stop the discus from being stunt

I do 5-6 also but after 15 minutes just clean the left overs out and replace the water which is very little, then remove 30%-50% before the 4th or 5th feed and replace, I could of done it wrong I guess but thats how it went the 2 times I had juveniles.

100% just sounds weird to me as that would involve moving them around which in my mind would just cause more stress on them? Just starting back up with discus again so maybe much has changed not sure?

any tank mates? decoration? They're school fish and do better in group of 6. small discus seem like picking on other more than adult. I assume you just put them in new tank, if so, just leave them alone, they're figuring out territory/leader in the group. as far as feeding and wc, it all depends on what you feed them. Some breeders feed Beefheart and do WC constantly 100% or more. That does not mean you change 100% at one time. Ex: you can do 75% WC in the morning and 75% in the evening right after feed BH.

interesting read as am also dealing with discus aggression and was curious as to it being Cichlid nature or due to limitation on the tank size. They also seem to get way more hyped up when its feeding time ( obviously I guess ) and the dominant one will chase the smaller one into a corner but the rest of the time and at night they all chill together
