+1. Also measure out exact food for each day.,

Add a drip system and have your neighbor/friend dump in food every other day.

We hire someone to take care of our critters. It's really not that bad. Most of the time it's someone that knows very little about them! We just show them how much to feed, go over some basics (such as, don't put your hands in the tank, wash your hands before and after feeding, they are venomous;), and they plop the food in daily. We keep lights off though to make it easy (so they don't get left on 24 hours a day by accident!), and do a nice big H2O change before we leave and right after we get back.

If you are gone for more than a week, perhaps you could contact a LFS in your area, and see if they offer aquarium servicing? You could have friends feed for you perhaps, and the aquarium service do a water change for you if you're gone for an extended period of time. If you are gone over long stretches frequently though I'd reconsider purchasing a ray altogether. They do demand quite a bit of time! Best of luck to you :)

I'd say skip the ray until your done with whatever your doing that calls to be away for a week plus. Your setting your self up for disappointment. It's not fun coming back from a trip and finding your stock dead....trust me.
