Sandfish are cool little lizards, don't see them out in the open much though. Peacock day geckos stay pretty small, that should work. Or if you're willing to culture fruit flies, dart frogs!!!

Cool little guys, but almost impossible to find in an lfs! Although I have been to a petshop in Miami that had some really exotic stuff.

tyl089 is on to something, i was reading the thread and the whole time i was thinking an ambush predator catfish. pacman catfish is deffinatly a no go though, they get pretty huge, growing to over 30 inches! I have a feeling that tyl089 was talking about the frogmouth catfish (chaca chaca). These guys will lay motionless on the floor, only to jump up and eat pray as it passes over head. Deffinatly one for the species tank, and all they need is a bit of sand. chaca bankanesis is also a safe option, growing to a similar size of 7 inches ish. While i would never normally recomend a fish this size for a small aquarium, its food for thought that these ambush predators will lay motionless most of their life so dont require much swimming space. Perhaps do some research down this route?
