by August you can see schools of medium-sized Bluefish (7-12'') working schools of Silversides near the surface in the break zone. I like to take a 2'' spoon with a light, whippy 5 ft rod, light spinning reel, and 6-8lb test, fire the spoon (kastmaster style is best, but on some days a small Eppinger Darevele works better) into the white water (well a little deeper or it snags) and burn it about 5'' under the surface. Roostertails are occasionally effective, but best results come with a Snapper Popper. You cast as far as possible, then BURN it hard across the surface. Problem is you cant feel the fight
