No they do not require any kind of basking area. They are fully aquatic. Also they can be kept in groups as long as they have enough space so they aren't overcrowded as they can get nippy and bite eachother. Sorry for the late reply kind of missed your post

They cannot be sexed until about 6" or so. I have a decent amount, not all are ready for sale as they nip at eachother and bite toes, arms and legs. I only sell the perfect ones and let the other regenerate. Either way I have more than youd probably want to buy lol. Let me know
