Whoa never knew they are Coldwater how long does it take them to get about 1'? Would they do good with koi?

No, really should be species only. Koi will nip their gills down to nothing. They should also be keep in a highly aerated tank in a shady or darker area. They will eat each other if they can fit the other in their mouth.
 
Very easy to care for if you follow some basic rules.

Keep in species tank only.
For a small one 10g is fine, but as they get 5"+ a 20g long probably better.
They prefer colder tanks. Not really cold cold but lower then 70 degrees, higher then 50 or so.

Cool thing about them is how easy they can be to transport. When I would move back and forth from college I would put mine in a container, in a cooler with ice. It just slows their metabolism and they do fine.
