Can someone tell me where I can read up on the Azuls? I am looking to get 2 maybe 3 in the future but I want to do as much research as possible. I have been doing google searches for over an hour and can't find a lot of the actual care requirments and what not. It's my understanding that they need cooler temperatures because they come from rivers. If anyone knows of a good website or some threads that have information on them that would be great. I have been looking on MFK as well the advanced search button hasn't helped much either.. I'm not looking for everyone to do the work for me just some help finding the information so I can educate my self. I will refer to the experts afterwards on any confusion I may have.. Thanks Guys.

what are your questions/concerns?

I'm just trying to read up on them such as minimum tank size, water params, compatable tank mates, breeding info.. As much as I can find.. I have never kept Cichla and I know a lot of people recommend starting out with the cheaper species before jumping into Azuls and what not. Would like to have 2 maybe 3 Azuls as I think they look the best.. I have tried google and have had trouble finding a lot of information. I know they require over filtration and lots of oxygen..

they grow huge 20"+ they are aggressive min tank size would be 8x3x30" maybe bigger..

I would try to keep more than 2 if possible. I have a 7in Azul and I just got 2 2.5in Azuls to grow out. The bigger Azul is running my 230 pretty much and I've been told by other cichla keepers that it it better to keep them in groups to cut down on aggression. They will eat quite a bit, but ALL 3 of my Azuls are taking pellets, krill and frozen brine and I supplement w/ live grass shrimp. I would keep your tank not only super clean, but heavily circulated/oxygenated as well.

Is that why I see a lot of bare bottom tanks with cichla? Do to how messy they are and how clean the water needs to be? Should I start with a cheaper species? Would a 350 be large enough to keep 3 Azuls for life?

Haha yes, of coarse the tank would be cycled.. I'm not a noob to fish keeping just to PBass.. I have had many types of cichlids. I also have a mini reef tank, so keeping good water params is not new to me.. I'm more trying to learn about particular fish and the water params that they do best in.

All I can share is from my own experience. My azul is the smallest in my tank, I only have 1. My temps are at 82, I do 40% water changes every week and I have him with 9 other cichla. He doesn't seem to be any easier or harder to keep happy than my other sp. But it would suck to mess up with your first pbass being zullies
