Yes, these are the infamous goonch.

B. yarrelli can get 6 foot plus in the wild, and is a real tankbuster in captivity. I've seen many pics of these fish over two feet in people's tanks. These fish are also called the devil catfish for good reason, they're killers. They'll eat anything that's smaller than them and will pick apart fish that are bigger than them. But then again, I've also seen some that seem to get along fine with other fish. It may come down to the individual fish's personality and how it was raised.

B. bagarius stays under a foot long, and from what I've gathered they don't have quite as bad of an attitude as a yarrelli. The main problem of this species is that they look nearly identical to young yarrelli and rutilus, both of which can get huge.

Good luck in your search, I'm looking too!

The red that I have highlighted is a incorrect statement. the yarelli is the goonch. not both. and I do believe that it's the yarelli that comes from the indonesian waters. the yarelli is fount in a few bodies of water but the ones from indonesia are the Goonch cats. Or at least the true goonch. the ones from the mekong and ganges are just yarelli.

I thought the goonch was found in the Ganges....

My feeder tilapia started as less than a centimeter long (sorry, Im used to the metric system) and the ones that survived are now 5 cm long (around 2 inches).

My source is planet catfish. "Goonch" is listed as a common name for both B. bagarius and yarrelli, with no differentiation made regarding the populations in various rivers.

gotcha gotcha, well either way the yarrelli is what im looking for. maverick how big are the cats in your pond?

5 - 8 inches. They are still juvies. I have yet to update my signature. Plus I also just got a hold of two MGCs, so I'm considering extending the pond in a year or two.

what are MGC's?
