no means to derail your post O.P but i just got to ask..

were the :swear: are all these people getting the id "mazan" from how do you know if it is indeed a "mazan"? If all you have done is just glanced at the cichla and found some similarity, that would NOT be all you need to id that fish and i mean not straight down to its river system! And for those of you who want to know what a "mazan" mono actually is, well its just an ordinary peruvian mono that has a name. Hah, and did you know that rio mazan is actually connected to its mother river rio napo? kinda strange we dont call mazans monos napo monos. either way here is a pic and well i just dont get well all this mazan is coming from. All i want is for people to stick to the facts.

O.P sorry for being a beach but just throwing this out and btw technically there is no such thing as a 24k mono, that would be a kelberi. but it could be a figure of speech ;) either way awesome cichla.

This is just an educated guess

peru mono doesnt have a whole body shine??? just in the bottom part???

a 24k is a fish with just all gold and no body blotches in the stomach????

a mazan mono have red eyes!

something like that???

th fact is when i bought my mono its said "wc collected rio mazan" BUD

some people need to relax and enjoythe cichla and stop trying to stir up stuff, i go by mine being a mono form where its collected and they look very diff from a peru, "mazans" have a greenish gold color body, and 3 sharp bars that go from top down connected to the top fin.
op nice bass btw

well i am pretty sure that an hypothesis would require more than just a glimpse, i.e you should do some research... google works wonders.. but ideally you would want the location of collection, a clear photograph of your fish and other possible I.D's you find on the net that look similar to yours, and of course once you have those you will need some close examination. Then you just compare and contrast with existing or pre-existing images/fish/scientific drawings etc.. using those you could possibly ID most cichla or even fish on the net. in person it would be much different and depending on the fish you would go on much higher levels to find its true ID. but unless you know that your source is 100% truthful about its location of collection and it appears to look like what they have been described as by going through many means of identification then you post it as what you believe it is and ask for a public vote on what the majority of people find it to be and only then will you or the public give you your best bet at knowing what it is, otherwise it could just possibly be cichla sp. captiveraised.

and i dont know mazans too well but im not sure thats a mazan you probably have a nice ocell or mono i can't quite tell the pics kinda blurry.

@hghlndr85

well i am relaxed bro and well i like making friendly discussions with people honestly without arguments we wouldn't know a lot of things we know now not just about cichla.

i understand that mazans look different but what are you referencing your mazan from? who or what told you that your mono is a mazan?

good points ryan. these were collected from the rio mazan basin thats all i know wish i was there tocomfirm, and as far as i know these "mazans" are the only ones that look this way, they dnt look like peru and they dnt look occel, see what i mean?they have there own kinda look. they seem to be a smaller species, i have had mine fora while now and hasnt grown to much, doesnt have the same build as the peru
heres 2 pics

mono on top is peru bottom is mazan

here the mazan is closest to you

i do see your point it does look like that, im going by what i was told and where it was said to be collected. seeing that i would lean toward a wc occel from that river vx the mazan based on pics alone. who knows

well i just want things to be correct i dont want false info floating around the cichla forum.. that would be un ethical and embarrassing. Not saying everyone one is right or needs to be and i know im not perfect, pretty far from it but when i feel like there is a flaw that i can do something to change or possibly fix well i attempt. So i hoped i cleared something up or gave you insight to another possibility..
thanks for playing it cool.
