Hey guys.. I need some help here. Iv just introduced my baby aligator gar 2 my tank. Hes abt 5 inches now & eating well.. Well to well because he`s now starting 2 eat his tankmates! Iv got two Florida gars with him @ the mo which he leaves alone, but now & again he takes a chomp out of the tails & fins of my big Dollars, Clown Knife & even taken off a whiskerr of my 10inch shovel nose cat. I know dollars arnt the best fish to have with him but can you mix other fish with gars, or should you keep gars by themselfes..? They all in a 200gallon now but will be building a nice big 500gallon soon. Pls let me know wat u think.. Thanks guys.

The general rule with comming gator gars is don't house a gator gar with anything you would hate to lose. They are very unpredictable in their aggression. Can be fine for a while, then out of the blue start killing tankmates.

Yip he gets fed well.. He`ll eat a krill or blood worm block by himself.. 1 Shot..!! Hes onto pellets as well. Mabe i need a bigger tank..?

It's pretty well established that gators LOVE silvery fish.... for dinner! Except for the cat, the ones he's after are all silvery so that might be part of your problem. I can see how a twitchy whisker would look appetizing to a young predator like a gator, too.

yeah gator gars tend to look at all tankmates as food sooner or later

what i want to do is change the dollars for some peacock bass. I think the dollars will be short work for the gator when he gets big.
