One krill ? Tell us how much, and how often you actually feed him. Mine never goes after any other fish, even silvery ones, and he is very well fed.

I kept my gator gar with 1 red devil, 1 oscar, and 5the clown loaches up untill he was about 12 inches, no deaths!!!
do you know that you're lucky that the gar didn't get kill? red devil and oscar can easily kill 1' gar when they are just about 4''!
for the OP, you gar is only 5'' long, that's mean it is still a young gar and he need constant access to foods so it is best to keep him separate from fish that you don't want to lose and give him feeders along with other food until he get at least 10'' long! after 10'', stop feed him live food and he might calm down after not eating live fish for a while. Maybe then you can begin keeping him with other fish that he can eat or at least equal his size, but that still a big risk!
Hey guys. He gets a krill & bloodworm block every second day. Between that hes eating big cichlid sticks & large 1inch freeze dried aro shrimp. I think the little buggers got big balls 2 take on fish double his size.
then you should keep him alone until he get like 2' long. Older gars tend to be lazy and will skip the chasing other fish to get the easy meal like dead fish and pellets!
My two Floridas are abt 6 or 7 inches now. The aligator is abt 5 inches. All of them eat just abt anything that drops onto the tank.. Including ur fingers when u try & hand feed them! Im now the new owner of some stainless tongs!
Whats the best food 2 feed these guys when they start getting big? Bearing in mind that they r going 2 end up in a 10 foot / 500g+ tank. & How big do u think they will get..?
Florida gar will get about 20'' in captivity while gator gar can get over 3'. For the feeding, I feed my gar pellets, shrimps, dead fish.
By the way, there is a gar section where we have scientists and experienced keepers that can help you in a lot of your problem!
