Should I dangle it infront of his mouth?

Sure, go nuts!

If that doesn't work just drop them into the tank. They should move around. With luck, you're turtle will see them and snap them up.

Well I've never had a Gator Snapper but I've had plenty of Commons and they were regular garbage disposals. Try some live prey and then do your best to wean it off that when it starts eating better and get it on to prepared food like pellets, fish filets and frozen prawns.

um for one i would stop taking him out of his enclosure!!!! hes an aquatic turtle, they rarely bask if at all!!!!!!!!!! sheesh!!!! seriously, leave him in the tank. especially cause hes not eating for you. poor little guy. let him get comfortable. if his mouth is open you dont need to dangle stuff in front of him. if its not fish he should just go after the food items if hungry. wont hurt to try if you want though. alligator snappers are funny to watch, mine get impatiant when he sits with his mouth open and fish are in with him. he will actually creep around after the fish with his mouth open. lol he also when small and while still in an aquarium learned to corner the fish. he got good at that. he would corner them so much that he would force the fish to swim by his open mouth. foods that you can try for your baby are...ghost shrimp/small crayfish, reptomin, trout chow, earthworms, insects, bloodworms, and even stuff from your seafood place.

i agree with above posters too when they say raise the water temp. id say mine had an avg water temp when small of 80-84. i offered mine a basking spot for about six months but he never used it so i took it out. gave him more space in the tank. i started mine off in a 20 long with about 4-5 inches of water.

I only take him out when I clean his cage. I dont leave him in there because IO don want his driftwood and such to hurt him
Witch I do every few days to make sure its nice and clean.

Ill raise his temp a lil bit for him right now, Ill clean up his a tank and offer more spots

How often do you clean? Where'd you get this turtle?

I know on mine, he's very very shy. Won't eat after being handled. I also don't use a basking spot, and keep the water low enough just for him to swim and if he relaxes he can still poke his head out for air while being firmly on the bottom. Mine eats reptomin even large sticks like a trash can.

My common snapper won't eat for a week after being handled, but once he gets comfortable he is a glutton. He eats turtle sticks, earthworms, and the occasional feeder. I keep his tank just like Cichlaguapote's, 1/2 full with no basking spot (although I've read that small snappers do bask occasionally).
