Baby apurensis or not?

Pseudopimelodus villosus:raninus?.jpg Viktor does bring up some things I also noticed with these latest pic's, yes the eyes do look too large and the barbels look to be too long as well as the lower jaw that doesn't extend beyond the upper lip. In addition the banded markings aren't common in medium to large apurensis. In this case it may indeed be a batrochoglanis species but not one I've encountered so far. Here's a pic of one I found on the 'net years ago that closely resembles the fish in question, the same elusive one I've been looking for for years… In any case the size of Tommy's fish has never been mentioned so far, so I originally assumed it may be a very small apurensis based on color/patterns, etc. I now think it's a batrochoglanis sp. and I want one too….

Well I suspected it may be a smaller size fish. The good news is that it will likely not grow past 12" so you won't have to buy a bigger tank as apurensis grow to 2'+ and it won't eat all it's tank mates as an apurensis would. Also it's a Very Rare fish, an exceptional find! For what it's worth, I saw a similar fish for sale 3 years ago it came from Peru and the seller wanted over $400!! He had a smaller one for $300 which I bought but it turned out to not be the same species as the expensive one, or yours. It is also rare and unidentified and cool but I'll still be looking to find one like yours…

I see. Thanks. Right, that's the same genus then.

Albeit taxonomy evolves all the time, superficially, villosus looks closer to the unknown than the GBBC. To my eye.
