My baby silver has gotten picked on a bit by one of my other fish, his fins are pretty destroyed. He has a little trouble swimming, but he is still fighting, and eating a bit at least. He wont eat every time I feed him, but I have seen him take some flakes. What should I do to get him back to health?

Which of your fish in your sig fought him? Isolate the culprit and the victim and do plenty of water changes in a hospital tank until it recovers completely. You can use Melafix, that's up to you.

Small aros should be kept solitary until they are 6" and with only select tankmates until 10". Get the aro into it's own tank of proper size. Provide clean water, nitrate levels near 10ppm. Add aquarium salt, 1 tablespoon per 10 gallons of water. If there are any open wounds I would treat with pimafix and melafix. Keep the heat at 84 degrees with the water well aerated.

He's not with any of those guys actually. I'm pretty sure it was either the molly, or the tiger barb, i want to get rid of that barb bad, but im kinda attached to him in a weird way..I need to get the Aro in his own tank, but am hurting in a money standpoint right now, so i think i am screwed..

Just talked to my mom, she is going to put money in my account so I can get a hospital tank going. Gotta love your mom..

Can you elaborate on the swimming trouble? Sideways, nose down, nose up, barrel rolls? or just lack of propel without full finnage?

I think those oscars would take care of that tiger barb for you. Then you would aways have it .... in a way...

what size tank do you have? doesnt sound like you have a tank big enough to house an arowana. Im just assuming since u have mollies and tiger barbs.

Just move the fish that are in the tank with him now, this way he will have his own tank and will not have to do with the additional stress of being moved.

I'd put the molly & tbarb in with your cichlids, they're still small...let your arowana stay alone and heal up. Most likely (like 90% chance) it was the barb that did it, they're notorious nippers.

It's mainly from the fin nippage that he is having problems swimming, and occasionally his tail dips down, but he is bopping about, and I do have a tank that is okay for an Aro, not for life, but for a while. The tank he is in now is a grow out. By the time he is full grown I will have a 240g or larger for him. And I will be putting those other fish into the new one, to keep the stress from getting worse. What should I treat him with? I know the salt, should I try Melafix?
