Would my arowana be ok if i put a pictus catfish in with him?
Also what size would the pictus catfish have to be? (my arowana is between 4 and 5 inches)

hey mate.. like I(and others said earlier.. keep the aro by itself for sometime.. until it is at least 6" to 8".. i haven't had a pictus so i can't say.. do have a read on them and check out their growth rates before you plan on this..
Hello Kaya,
I did some research to see the compatibility of pictus cats with arowanas and most of the people had success.

my brother has like a 5 inche aro an a 3 in pictus an both are perfectly fine in the tank

his is a 80 gallon he will be fine depending on your tank size

pictus catfish have spines on their fins and they have twice the amount of spines than an average catfish. if your arowana tries to eat it the fish the venom could prove fatal and each spine has poison on it. arowanas grow to large sizes and have keen eyesight. pictus catfish only 6 inches if your lucky. so it may not be a good idea at all.

Do you think I should try a less active catfish like the sun catfish?

you can try a stripped raphael... gets about the same size as the pictus. and is much less active
