Baby ATF's

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I picked up my 3rd one yesterday and all is good. They seem to be happier as a trio. And now bickering will be divided amongst 3 instead of 2. I hope they work out well together.

ARE THEY VERY AGGRESSIVE?

I find them to be very aggressive even amongst each other. From watching them for long periods of time I have noticed that they have to be well matched in size. The one that ate a fish 1/2 it's size now seems to be the boss. There is a pecking order.

damn, those are awesome fish but way to expensive for my taste. my lfs only wants 70 for there's but its only 3" and i can't see myself doing that.

What size tank do you have them in ? In addition to the 3rd one you picked up you should also get a few dithers. At least 2 dithers per ATF. The more distraction you have in the tank with them the less time they have to focus on one another. Serioulsy though not to burst your bubble but I would of just picked up one to have it grow up to be in mint condition than to loose the other two eventually and waste your money. But if you can afford it and not take it as a big loss they are an awsome predator indeed, once they get close to the 8" or so mark.

Don't get me wrong, you can raise 3 ATF's togheter provided they have the space. If you have them anything under a 300 gallon tank chances are very slim you will have all 3 in the future.

Keeping a school is possible, the KEY is space. Even if you buy 5-10 ATF's but have them in a small footprint of a tank you will be down to 1.

They will be going into my 230. I hope they will get along. Righht now they are in a 33 and seem to be getting along o.k. They will be soon transfered to the 230

Thanks for all compliments. These fish are amazing. I can't wait until they are around the 8'' mark. I had raised one to 12'' before but had to let it go due to a cross country move.
