Be careful using feeder fish as that is a good way to introduce disease into the tank. I started my guy on dried blood worms and he enjoyed them but seems to really perfer frozen ones. I have since trained him to eat pellets which he accepts readily when the season is right I throw in small worms for treats. :D

From my exp (Raising 3 LMB from fry to their current size 10-12") It is VERY important to feed them a mix of things as to get them used to eating what ever you throw in their (coz one day soon you will start them on pellets). I found that they enjoyed freeze dried blood worms, flakes, and the very small pellets. At about 2"+ I gave them cured live rossies and frozen (but thawed) brine shrimp. At 4"+ I brought in all kinds of worms as well as small goldies. Now at the 10"+ size they eat any thing which is good for my wallet. Chicken, beef, salad sized shrimps, large pellets, crickets, large goldies, and whatever falls into the tank. As a side note if you have a fish that doesnt eat pellets but the rest do the non pellet eating fish well be a runt compared to the others and I think one day will be eating as a snack.

These guys take a LOT of food to grow up right.

They also need to be fed fatty stuff IMO. I dont think you can do it without worms and other meaty foods.

Couple times a day till the stomach bulges. Trust me, they wont say no.

This is the main diet of my fish now as its full of good stuff. The best part is it comes in 3 sizes so you can start them on the small stuff at a young age.

Ive grown probly 10 them out from 2" to 12"+ and they typically werent very picky. They would eat pretty much anything from day 1 to the time they were traded off or died. One of the easiest fish to raise imo.

used to feed mine baby minows that i'd go catch with a mesh net
