Awesome I'll get some of that too :)

I only feed my fish live animals with a CNS who are capable of screaming in terror as they are being eaten. The sound helps me sleep at night. ;)

Lol

Sooo... back to the main question, she's just showing normal bichir behavior? She is acting the same now, and the lump looks to be gone. Man, bichirs are weird little fish, pretty much EVERYTHING that would be a sign of a sick/dieing/dead fish (floating, getting stuck to the filter, erratic jerking, etc.) is NORMAL. God do I love these fish! :D

Some fish are farm raised for the sole purpose of nutritional value, i admire your beliefs and your commitment but if you really want to help animals id think that theyd benifit from such proteins! I could understand if you ate fish but their for your fish :)

Dont be so hard on urself! Cheers and happy saturday :))

Call it a long shot, but look at practicing Jews, or Judaism in general. The meat they eat has to be prepared a certain way for it to be acceptable for them to eat it, you know it as Kosher. They ‘dispose’ of the animal in a more humane way than most butchers/slaughterhouses. Quick, clean, painless butchering. I haven’t looked much into it, but maybe you could see about buying fish from a Jewish or Kosher market? I’m sure they would make death quick, painless, and clean for fish as they do for the other animals. Not sure though, as I said, and it is a long shot, I may be completely wrong. Look into it though, as this may be one of your only options, if the only thing you are worried about is the way they are ‘killed’, and how clean/painless it is.

I respect everyone’s life choices and decisions, but, I don’t know, not all fish, just like people, can be vegans, lol. You will need to move onto bigger/more substantial food later on though, so sooner or later something will have to give..

Though you are against eating it, it would not be for you. It’s for the fish. Better to give them the nutrients and proteins they need, than to malnourish them. Also, think of it this way, you are not causing the death of the other fish to be food for your fish. You’re just the delivery person, from the freezer to the tank. I imagine there are Poly’s in Africa as we sit here, devouring and chomping on other live fish, at least you know what you will be feeding your Poly’s is already dead, you won’t have to watch it die, or have any part in its death, and all you’ll need to worry about is if they got their fill or not come feeding time..

The frozen stuff are insects, which I am pretty certain don't feel pain (I believe it's because they don't have a CNS..). While I know fish do (and in my opinion, there are very few humane ways to kill a fish, and even they are debatable), and I'm pretty sure shrimp/prawns do as well, I will look into the shrimp/prawns some more though if they can feel pain.

As for worms, I'm okay with black worms as I believe they too don't feel pain, and even if earthworms don't as well :)

You know, a lot of people think fish can't feel pain. Insects and worms can feel pain just as well as fish can, and their death is a slow and painful freezing one. Saying that you feed with certain foods just because they can't feel pain is just dumb. those things still feel pain. It's a pity that you don't recognize that when you stomp on a spider, it is in terrible agony for hours because their bodies keep them alive. Ask yourself this; if a fly can't feel pain, why would it avoid getting squashed?

Good point. Polys are not herbivores.....to deprive them of foods that they require is just irresponsible fishkeeping. I understand that your a vegetarian and thats okay.... If you can't go to the market and get them shrimp or some kind of fish, insects, etc just because your a vegan then i think you should reconsider the kind of fish that you are keeping. Is it really relevant if the fish is dead or not before its processed for pellet foods? The fish are eating it not you....
Just saying.....ive never seen people throw in carrots and lettuce to attract sharks......

The lump was probably food in its stomach. I have seen it before on my old senegal after a nice meal lol

Thanks for all the concerns. As stated before though, I have no intentions of starving/malnourishing my fish at all.

After lots of thought, I will be getting them some sort of frozen fish/crayfish, I'm not gonna starve my angels! Trust me please, I WILL NOT STARVE MY FISH OF THE PROPER NUTRITION THEY NEED!!! I love my Nimmy and Nessie, I won't do anything to harm them :)

@PaiLum92, a lot of the "kosher" stuff really isn't as humane as it seems to be unfortunately :(

@redwolffish, really, can you find me some link that proves this? I never step on spiders or kill flies or anything like that, just because I see no need to harm them when they are just trying to live their lives, I bring everything outside :)

Oh and the lump is gone, and she is getting thicker and a lot bigger!! :D
