Baby blacks together or separate

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I agree this is a possibility. I can open the blinds on the window and let light in the room during the day and turn on the lights in the evening. I'm hoping the pbass and pike already in the tank will help distract the aros a little. And hopefully when the pbass and pike see the aros eating pellets they go after them also.

leaving the light might and might not affect anything and when you think it is ok to turn the light off that is when the problems could start...unless you plan to leave the light on all the time if it works

So I had 4 baby blacks (about 3-4in) that I purchased from Rich at I.A. All four were in a 10g and one died a few days later, so I separated them and now they are all about 6-7in. I want to free up the individual smaller tanks they are in and combine them together. I have a 75gal with about 20 endli bichirs (4-8in), a pike 5-6, and an orino p-bass about 6 inch. Tank has a emp400, ac110, and a ac802 power head, and I do water changes each week, 50-70%. The aros and bichirs are eating pellets and the pike and bass are eating frozen tilapia.

So my question is it risky mixing the aros all together at their size?
If they are should I grow them another 2-3 inches then mix them?

ive had my black aro trio since they were 8" and they are already at 18" now. had this set up for a year and is still doing fine..

you can put them all in a 100 gal tank with small feeder fish like cheap guppies... I use to have 3 silver around 2 inches in a tank all together with small baby guppies as food... hey grew up to 26" , in another bigger tank of course.. till I sold them to a friend.
All they need to avoid fighting is food available

good to know hopefully mine at slighty smaller size will work out too.

I don't feed live so probalby not gonna try this. There is also the school of thing non live food can help lower aggressive tendecies.

All three black aros are in the tank. I added my other smaller 4in orino as well. The aros all seem to be getting along, schooling sometimes and swimming in front of the Emp400 filter. Hopefully this continues and I'll try feeding the bichirs and aros tomorrow sometime.

I would grow the arowanas up to 10 inches before putting them in the same tank. I tried to put 7 4 inch black arowana in my old fish room in a 40 gallon with guppies and water plants and attempted to raise them together. They nipped a each other a bit and came back the next day a couple had died and all the fish had tears and I had to separate them. I would raise them up before attempting to put them together.

So far they are working out, could be I have a pike in there that chases the new pbass in the beginning and now the other pbass sometimes chases the pbass. I'm guess this is distracting the aros a little because I haven't seen them nip or chase each other or see and damage on their bodies. The aros and the new pbass are also eating the pellets so the combination is working out so far.
