I was out catfishing last night, and as i was pulling my canoe into shore, i saw something in the shallows, so i scooped it up. It turned out to be a half inch bullhead (not sure what kind, hes so small) and i decided to keep him. Right now hes just in an old goldfish bowl until i get his tank or pond set up. Before the flaming starts he wont be in there more than a couple weeks and he is only a half inch long. I was wondering what i should feed this little guy when he is this small, and how big of a tank should he be in? and help or info would be appreciated. I am either going to do a single fish tank, or a pond with a few native cats.:headbang2

I have had good luck with frozen bloodworms and mysis for small bullheads. He will probably eventually take sinking pellets too. Don't worry if he doesn't come out to get the food right away, he may wait until dark. In fact, it's probably best to offer small portions at first and feed just before lights out. Be sure to give him something to hide under so he doesn't get stressed out.

There are also tadpole madtoms up there, which closely resemble baby bullheads. Take a look at the adipose fin (the second fin on the back). On a bullhead it is well separated from the caudal fin, while on madtoms the two fins are joined.

I caught an inch long bullhead and it ate bloodworms.

Your problem will be finding out what they don't eat.

Especially being WC, they are very hardy, even as youngin's.

I'm in the same Geo location, so I'm sure they are browns or blacks.

Either way, they will feed on what you got.As long as it's fish food...no hot dogs now!

I've got 11 bullheads (think they are black) in the 300gal. :) They are from 1/2" to 1.5" in size. Great fish, definitely a SNAP to take care of. Seriously, just add water and they do great! LoL!!

Foods: NLS, Flake, Mysis, torn pieces of Krill, Mollie babies, blood worms, even Betta pellets....haha.

Its great watchin them all come swarming out at feeding time. They just appear outa nowhere it seems like. They do get used to the lights and will eventually be out roaming during the day if they feel comfy. :)

where im from i don't usually catch bull heads under 12" or channel cats under 16" LOL so keeping them is out of the question.
any luck on the feeding? and lets see this little guy!
