Baby Bullhead!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Like already stated they are very easy to care for. They will eat anything. I've had some that have taken sinking pellets the day I caught them. They really like hiding in plants. I have water sprite floating in thier tank and they spend a lot of time just hiding in it. Very easy to get to hand feed and are pretty active during the day. Don't let that little size fool you they get huge not Channel Cat huge but they will need a least a 120 to reach adult size.

There are also tadpole madtoms up there, which closely resemble baby bullheads. Take a look at the adipose fin (the second fin on the back). On a bullhead it is well separated from the caudal fin, while on madtoms the two fins are joined.

most likely he didnt catch the tadpole madtom

we do have yellow, white, brown, channel, and tadpole madtoms. tadpole madtoms only occur in the french river.

I was out catfishing last night, and as i was pulling my canoe into shore, i saw something in the shallows, so i scooped it up. It turned out to be a half inch bullhead (not sure what kind, hes so small) and i decided to keep him. Right now hes just in an old goldfish bowl until i get his tank or pond set up. Before the flaming starts he wont be in there more than a couple weeks and he is only a half inch long. I was wondering what i should feed this little guy when he is this small, and how big of a tank should he be in? and help or info would be appreciated. I am either going to do a single fish tank, or a pond with a few native cats.:headbang2

I did the same thing and had mine in a 25g. But he outgrew this in like 5-6 months. That 1/2" turned into 6". Now I have him in a 55g.

I am 100% sure it is a bullhead, i just dont know if it is brown or black yet. Here are some pics, sorry for the poor quality, but you can see how small he is!

Here are a couple better pics. I am 100% sure it is a bullhead. The pond i got him from only has black and brown bullheads, no other cats.

Edit: the pictures didnt work. it got stuck on the managing uploads screen. it stayed at sending request to monsterfishkeepers.com. any suggestions to get the pics up?
