I have 2 wild calvus that have had two batches of babies. The first batch was just over a month ago. When i saw that they were free swimming i took them out of my parent tank and put them into a net in my grow out tank. They died within the first week. The second batch was about two weeks ago. We did the same thing and the next day all but 12 were dead. We took the surviving out and put them back in the parent tank, thinking it must be a pH problem. They did fine on crushed flakes for about a week, we desided to put the in a impovized baby holder instead of the egg tumbler(hard to feed in the tumbler). We hatched brine that night and the next morning we feed the brine to the babies, withing the next 10 minuts they were acting weird, within the hour all babies were dead. We always make sure that the brine are thoroughly washed with fresh water before feeding to young. Does anyone have any advice? I would love for this not to happen again, so please help.

i believe that it was an issue of either tap water being introduced into the fry's enviorment or the salt in the brine.

yeah that was my initial thought...the salt in the water that the brine was hatched. also, did you test the water parameters (ph, alkaline, etc)?

both tanks are very close in pH...but calvus fry are extreamly sensitive to pH changes.

yes there very very sensitive to ph or any other changes including alkaline. i once read that in some article that because lake tang. is very deep, the water chemistry tends to be quite stable in their natural environment.

ya...im sure thats true. do u use any specific method to keep the water in your tanks close to the same?
