I've got a baby TSN x Pictus cat (around 3 inches) housed with my baby TSN x RTC (around 2 inches) in a 20 gallon right now. They are growing steadily so very soon I'll be moving them into a 40. The two are good buddies, the smaller one often follows the other around and they even forage for food together & rest in the same hiding place. Anyways, I'll take some pictures when I get the chance, but does anybody know of some other catfish that would do well with these two? The only other big catfish I've ever owned is my 17" RTC, who I'm selling soon, and other than shovelnoses I don't really know many others. A Jau catfish would be nice but I don't know where to find those. I'm looking for something I can get in most LFS or online stores, at a small size and not crazy expensive. I'm not really interested in channels, bullheads, or synodontis. Would a Wyckii do fine with the two? Or if I had the money, a Tigrinus?

Just FYI: I'm not doing redtails anymore lol.

You must have a monster tank planned?

A Wyckii will likely kill them or get eaten by them as they out grow him...

Indoor pond in the winter, outdoor pond in the summer. A friend and I are working on it together, and I'm growing out the fish.
Are wyckii that aggressive that they'll kill other cats? Any cats that will grow fast enough to not get eaten?

TSN x Pictus cat? If you mean TSN x Leiarius pictus, this hybrid is barely known around here. So few have been reported about. They don't appear to be too viable IIRC. Keepers lost them at around 1.5'-2' mark.

They are not too demanding in terms of tank mates, as long as the tank mates do not bother them and do not even remotely fit in their mouths.

Yes, wyckii will not tolerate tank mates, esp. bottom dwellers in small and even medium tanks. Large ponds and public-aquaria sized tanks appear more or less doable with wyckii.

Jau is similar to wyckii in terms of meanness and moodiness.

TSN, achara, L. pictus, giraffe, oxydoras, and great many others are doable. Browse through PlanetCatfish Cat-eLog. Filter it by size.

By tsn x pictus I meant tsn x leiarius, my bad. I'm not actually sure if my tsn is mixed, he could be 100% tsn. I just got thrown off by his giant dorsal fin and spots (usually at his size I see stripes beginning to form but he doesn't have any). I might get a leiarius to go with my other two though.

I see. Then it is more understandable. TSN x achara (Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum x Leiarius marmoratus) is a well known, food fish hybrid from SA. Just as with the TSN and the TSN x RTC, we get culls, runts, dinks, and underperformers in the ornamental fish trade. If it looks as the ones I am attaching, then it is.

It's character is close to TSN x RTC, the differences are marginal. May be a touch more assertive / aggressive and may prefer pellets a bit more so than flesh versus the TSN x RTC.

Yep I'm 99% sure that's what I have lol.

Then my world is back in the state of "self-deceiving" balance and normalcy :)

Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum x Leiarius pictus appears to be exceedingly rare and a specialty item. I think I've come across the reports of about half a dozen of them in all my years on MFK... and IIRC, only two of them may probably be alive today, again IIRC, Ultimatejay's? Necrocanis lost his, Oddball did too, no?

Iridescent sharks get rather large fast treated like a cat and not a tropical fish ! They are a fast growing large food fish it's starting to catch on in the USA buy in bags like channel cat lol they look cool big
