he guys,
i have a serious problem in my tank.

I have a new tank of 200 gallons.
In there i have
5 cichla ocellaris, (3 inch)
3 datnioides microlepis (5 inch)
1 chaca bankanensis (5 inch)
2 potamotrygon hystrix. (4 inch disc)

I started with 10 cichla, but 5 died already!
im sure they had a worm cure already in the store, sinds that shop does that with every fish.

My water is 27 degrees celcius. wich is fine for al the fish.
Furthermore my water values. de ph is a little high, 8
nitrit is near 0, en gh is 7. Kh is 6.

the tank is filtered by a fluval fx5 potfilter, and that is massive.
i have 1 air pump extra and a nother filter in the tank to keep the water
with oxygen and to keep the water flow.

Al my other fish are doing fine, except for my cichla.
Before they die, they turn grey and lay on the ground.
The never have serious injury's or another indication of agression with other fish. But still i take the possibility in account of agression from the datnioides.
They eat oke and dont look bad at all, but still they die.
Anybody a idea?
i have no clue!

sound like the tank isnt warm enough to me .... raise it to 31c

is the tank cycled you asid new tank... water parameters?

Near 0 nitrite isn't 0. It should be exactly zero. How about your ammonia level? The only one that should be traceable of the three is nitrate. You should have 0 ammonia, and 0 nitrite. I'm guessing your tank isn't cycled? That's probably the problem. I think 8 on the pH scale is a little too high. Did you acclimate them very slowly? It could be shock from a massive change in pH over very little time.

if you have nitrite then thats deadly.. what are your nitrates? and the ammonia? your nitrites should be zero

i will buy a nitrate testkit today. and ill try to find someting to trace ammonia as well.
is 30C not to hot?
What do u mean with cycled? i had my new aquarium for 1,5 week and added bacteria and easylife to begin with before adding the datnioides and rays. is that what u mean?
thnx for your help.

cycle meaning your tank has been running long enough for the bacteria to convert all the ammonia and nitrites (which are poisonous to fish) to harmless (in small amounts) nitrates.

tanks for the reply,
so yeah i cycled the tank.
Ill check my values in a few hours for that,
thnx anyways

How do you know the tank was properly cycled if you don't have a test kit. You need a kit that will test ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH. Peacock bass should be kept in water like this.
ammonia - 0
nitrite - 0
nitrate - 10 or less
pH - 6-7
temp - 30-32c

I'm guessing your ammonia is sky high. You really should have done a lot of research before you bought these fish. I have a feeling this is going to cost you big time. For now do a 30% water change daily if possible.
