There are no fish are strictly carnivorous, herbivourus, piscevious...ect. In eating fish, they get vegatable matter, in eating plants they may get insects, in eating insects they may get plant or other animal products. Which is why it IS best to feed a varied diet, preferably prepared foods and the like BECAUSE they have more nutrition, are well rounded with tons of ingredients, and are specifically designed to help your fish grow. Sure you can feed your fish live foods, but nutritionally speakin they aren't gonna get the same type of benefits that you would if you feed them a varied diet with prepared foods. Its more of an owners personal preference when it comes to feedin live foods...as some people get a kick out of watchin their predators chance down their prey. Its just healthier to feed prepared foods. I've done experiments where I've gotten a group of the same type of fish, fed some only live, others only prepared, still others only frozen, and then finally a control group that was fed everything. The results were quite obvious...
