Baby EBJD tankmate suggestion

Someone suggested various catfish, I gotta disagree. Ebjd grow super slow, not ling until those cats will swallow him up! Id keep him alone a few weeks, make sure he's eating and such, then add 30 feeder guppies so he can munch them at will!

He suggested Cory's, Raphael's, pictus, clown loaches, plecos... None of those will swallow an ebjd, and my ebjd is not growing slowly, 4 inches in 3 and a half months.

I have had good experience keeping mine with Corys, lots though so any aggression is spread. I have 25 with my ebjd, obviously you'll need a larger tank.

A large enough pictus could swallow a baby ebjd. And a raphael wouldn't even have to be that big, I have a spotted Raphael that has eaten many fish over the 10 years I've had him.

I think your ebjd is the exception to the rule, most grow very very slowly. I have a male that is 7-8 months old and only 3.5-4 inches.

True, but I just assumed he would have common sense and not buy full grown cats haha, I've never had pictus cats so don't know their personalities, but If you got a few small, I see no harm? I also have a spotted raphael, growing painfully slow, I doubt they would out grow an ebjd. Here's my male

He's great looking!

Raphaels are awesome, when mine was 2" it ate a 1.5" african cichlid. It was awesome! I was fortunate enough to be looking when it happened!

i have been thinking myself about the same thing, i dont have an ebjd yet but looking to get one on his own for my 75gal.

personally i would get 5-6 red hump geo's but be careful even something like geophagus can turn nasty, its the same with all cichlids they are unpredictable creatures.

i would go some corydoras cats and some non nipping tetras, such as cardinals and rummynose
