bare bottom..

Go bare its better no hassle to clean or syphon the gravel or sand..
it makes it easy to change water.
Plus also its a grow out so you dont need any substrate at all yet..

But if you want go ahead but bare is simple...

again sand rocks, and if you use it in a grow out you can have it for seeding a tank later, if needed...

I'd say gravel never used sand but i guess it would work just as well.
