So I am picking up my baby FRT tomorrow and was wondering for my sand bed if I just used super fine sand instead of crushed coral sand. Would that be ok? Amd will a peice of driftwood lower the PH to low? Or does the PH really matter that much? Do I need sand even or can I just have driftwood?

Thanks in advance!

I use a mixture of sand and crushed coral. The sand will provide an element of security, allowing the baby turtle to dig and hide. The crushed coral will keep the water properties suitable for the turtle.

The driftwood can be used too, just make sure it's pre-soaked.

I would use sand in place of crushed coral but I dont think it would matter if you use the mixture like the asian said. I also would not worry about the driftwood so long as you did not just get it out of the ocean or something. Congrats with you new turtle too, I am jealous. post pics when you get him!

Congrats! Post pics when you can...

pics when u get it!! i love FRTs

You do need sand for the frt to feel safe. Try to get sugar sized crushed coral.

If its really young it also helps to provide some floating plants for it to rest and breath on....

I guess this must be FRT breeding season? Both my local asian lfs have them in stock for $500 and $600.

Its hatching season over in Indo for alot of things..........It be even better if they didn't have to be laundered to become legal here in the US.........I'd have a few myself.......

Its in a 12g for now with some other fish. I am using sugar sized sand (from my old salt water system) and am soaking driftwood that i bought today. pics to come soon.
