baby gar feeding

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Try market shrimp or pellets. Try to get them feeders as fast as possible. I trained my gar to take pellets.

thnks
i tried blood worms when i came back to see it was cleaned but i dont know if my gar ate or my snakehead ate the blood worms as they neva eat when am around so i must go and let them eat and come back to see

For my gars when they were babies, I just went to the LFS and got a bag of guppies and threw them in the gar tank. When I didnt see any more guppies, I threw in another bag. A bag had about 50 guppies or so in it. Baby gars need a constant food supply to grow and develope properly. They eat when they get hungry. As the gars grew I switched to rosies. Once they reached about 6-8" I started feeding very small talapia chunks, but still kept rosies in the tank for them to munch on. It wasnt until my gars reached over 12" that I took them off feeders completely and switched to talapia and pellets.

I got really baby Gars (at around 4") and had to start them off with (live) Bloodworms.

Eventually (in a week or two), they were big enough to "hunt" feeders. Kept feeding them feeder fish till they started eating market shrimp and silver sides and other assorted sea-food.

I will eventually hope to get them on pellets with occasionally feeding them sea-food.

Good luck,
Sid

ok thnks but why it doesnt eat when am around lol

In my eperiance, baby gars are quite skiddish. Mine all hid when I came to the tank. They grow out of that and now my bigger gars eat right from my hand.

i have observed the gar but i didnt saw him eating infact its the blue snakehead who is eating all the blood worms

king, will you be able to provide us with the following details so we can better understand and help your scenario?

1:gar size
2:tank size
3:tankmates and their sizes
4:amount of current in your tank
5:how long you've had the gar for
6:diet of the rest of the fish in the tank

with that information we would be able to get a better understanding on why your gar is not feeding and can better help you solve that problem.

cheers,
xander
