So went into pet-co today to get some meds for my midas and am browsing through the fish like i always do and what do i see? 2 little baby jags not even 2in stuck in an overstocked tank marked as "assorted african cichlids":ROFL: well anyways these poor babies were completely torn up and looked like they wouldn't last much longer if left there so i persuaded the lady to sell them to me for the price of a different cichlid (they were wanting frickin $13 a piece for those africans what a rip off!!) but anyways so she agreed and i got them for 4 bucks a piece (which considering you cant find jags around here anywhere is pretty good), well i LOVE jags and have always wanted one but alas don't really have the room for them, so i just got these guys to heal them up, grow them up a bit and then find good homes for them. and who knows by the time they are big enough to go i may just have fallen in love and decide to make room in my 120 for one of them haha. n man are they showing their jag traits already, they haven't even been in the tank 10min and are already lip locking and tail slapping lol:screwy: (i guess they are happy to be in clean water where half the fish in tanks next to them aren't dying :irked:)

here are some pics i took of one of them though you can't really see how damaged his/her fins are, and I can't really take any pics of them in the tank yet cus don't want to stress them with all the light and flashes and stuff (the poor babies have been through enough)

Congrats on the rescue :) Poor guys. They must have been so stressed cramped in there with Africans and in dirty water :( Hopefully you'll be able to keep one after you grow them out. Jags are such amazing fish, and I wish I had room for one.

thanks guys, n yeah i mean i got them with the plan of just healing them up and finding them new homes, but that will probably take a couple months so who knows what will happen by then haha but yeah they seem to be adjusting really well, they are already swimming all around the tank and digging in the sand (unless i come up to it of course lol)

cute little guy..update in a month.. congrads on saving him

Good job! Bet you a 6 pack you wouln't be able to give them up when the time comes!

haha normally i would take you on that bet, but in this case im thinking that is probably how its going to go lol, def don't have room for 2 though but who knows maybe i will find a cheap deal on a nice tank ;) but yeah i guess only time will tell lol, either way i am definitely going to be super picky about who they go to, def gonna have to be sure its some one with a big enough tank who knows what they are getting themselves into haha

so just wanted to give a next day update. the little guys are doing great and have started eating and are already not being as skittish when i come to the tank. only thing is the lighter goldish color one is being a complete arse to the other one and keeping him up towards the top of the tank. i guess he feels too comfortable and has now turned on his little brother/sister. its weird though because the darker one doesnt even fight back it just swims away and the gold one continues to chase and bite at him as he is swimming away (yesterday i saw them lip locking right after i put them in but since then the darker one just runs away). but there really isn't anything i can do about it as i don't have a second divider, so im hoping that they will coexist for a couple days longer until my midas' meds treatment is over and i can put him back in the big tank, then they can have the small tank to themselves and i can divide them if need be. i tried putting the a-hole one on the midas' side and that worked until the baby came out of his cave and the midas tried to eat him so had to put him back on the other side, but i haven't seen any new damage or anything im just worried that the gold one is stressing out the darker one too much...

Nice save! I have always thought it was weird that Africans cost so much more than CA/SA cichlids. IMO CA/SA are far better fish to keep.
