The bass you hear of are probabily peacock bass, which is a non-native species to North America.

I caught 4 1" bass the other day in a net at the lake. I have them in a 10 gallon tank right now as a starter tank. What else do i need to do??????????

yea ive already got a larger tank for them. ive been feeding them baby brine shrimp(freshly hatched) and they have been eating it ok. i just want to know what kind of life expectancy we are talking about and stuff like that.

first of all im not even sure they ARE bass. second of all, my tank was prepared, third of all, ive had bass before. i had a 210 gallon with 2 2 pounders in it.

So... post a pic and get them ID'd. If you've kept them before and your tank is prepared, why are you asking about them now?

And all_or_nothin... Just because it is private doesn't make it legal.

I would advise that you ID fish before you take them because like Noto said, if you netted largemouth bass, you most likely did so illegally. Also, look into your local regulations in order to stay out of any trouble. State DNR's tend to make examples out of those that break the laws.

Not to thread-jack but a DNR got mad at me for speeding past him and called in 6 other cars from various law enforcement branches to chase me down and pull me over..... They're no joke.

I'm pretty sure you're okay if it was a private lake (no guarantees though); I don't know what SCs laws are in regards to that but most states tend to only have a problem if you take the from a public body of water under the state's management, but just to be safe I'd say avoid catching any more baby LMB without checking the legality first. IDing first is usually a good idea lol.

And one more thing, im not the only one who says they have baby bass. so why dont you go get on their case? no offense meant.

Usually someone else gets on their case first. I'm not trying to single you out, and I understand all too well the urge to take everything home. However, I think it is important to encourage responsible fish keeping and collecting, especially here on a public forum read by many users who may not be familiar with the legal and practical issues associated with keeping native fish.

ok dude. idk why i said the lake. its my pond. if its a body of water that I stocked, i think its legal! I basically own them, i payed enough for the stocking lol. And ive never had fish so little like this.

I agree. Try not to take gamefish from the wild. Again, do what I do and search chinese supermarkets. If you go there frequently enough, you can usually find small (~6-8 inches) bass/walleye/pike/sunfish/bowfin etc. mixed in with the larger ones they sell for eating.

If you are keeping natives illegally, don't post about them here, I'm sure that some law enforcement browse the website...
