State of chaos
So my Mosquitofish popped out TWENTY THREE FRY this morning. I even saw one pop out. The little guy came out tail first :headbang2
I cant accommodate all of them, so I put em in a fish bag and donated them to the manager (?) of the LFS. (She breeds Livebearers.) When I got home, 1 was hiding in the gravel. I scooped him out and kept him:D:grinno:
On a suckier note, I lost my phone:(:irked:

lol nice, when i first started my tank, i accidentally bought a pregnant molly and it gave birth the next day i put in my tank. lol. atleast i made some money by gving the babies to my LFS :D

I'm suprised a breeder is interested in those things. Mosquito fish are pests around here. Some clown thought that releasing them into the local streams and ponds would lessen the mosquito population. Instead they ate all the local guppies eggs and took over.

Mosquito fish are indeed nasty. Had them before. I mistook some of them for guppies as they look very much like. They manage to harass and tear several fins before I finally caught them. That was some experience.

cooool! did you get store credit from the fry?
Nah they would be wort a penny each...MAYBE, plus I just needed to get rid of them. And i didnt give em in to the store, just the manager. My Mosquitofish are rescued feeders, so you can see why I prefered to give them a good home :)

Really? Mine were for free, both because Ive had long conversations with the manager (shes very nice) about fish and I just had to get em off my hands.

The DNR actually released them into alot of places. Yeah they do like to eat Mosquito Larvae as well as EVERYTHING ELSE: Fairy Shrimp, fry, crayfish larvae, aquatic weeds, and pretty much everything else. Theyre all over Florida. Ive seen HUNDREDS of them in a drainage ditch (along with what I think were Tig Oscars) and even netted one in a salt water canal.

I tried to keep them with White Clouds. I was almost very short on White Clouds. http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=180426 Thats part of the allure. Check my sig:headbang2

I can definately agree with you on them being baby making machines. We've got a insane amount of them in our outdoor goldfish pond. We started with about maybe 30 or 40 I caught in a stream and now about 9 years later we have a huge colony of them...counting would be impossible but theres gotta be at least a steady population of 500 or so in there. They make great tank cyclers and snacks for my pictus.

I need a few of those then. I could use a good supply of feeders? LOL
