My ~3inch pbass has the early stages of Ich. I have since raised the water temp. to 84 degrees and added about 6 tblspn of aquarium salt. (he's in a 55 gallon right now). Today I bought some Quick Cure Ich medication at my lfs. I haven't used the medication yet because I have a couple questions about the process of adding it. Do I remove the carbon from the filter? I've read online that I should do large 50% water changes daily but the lady at the fish store said do small 10% water changes. Which is the best? How much and how often to I add salt when doing water changes? Is there anything else I can do other than what I have mentioned? If there are any success stories of treating pbass of Ich I would really appreciate the sharing. Thanks.

i would never do 50% water changes daily, especially in a 55 gallon. id say go with 10% per day and just keep up the temp. im not sure about the ich medicine with carbon tho...

remove the carbon from the filter. i'd treat for 3-4 weeks just to be sure cause you will find yourself doing it again in a month if you don't. i do 3 day treatments, with an off WC day inbetween. after 2 sets of treatments i give a 3 day break. then 2 more sets. do WC's between each set too. you want that s**t out of the tank.

edit....
take carbon out on all medicines. it neutrilizes it. keep the tank well airiated too, and add a powerhead if you can to add water movement which aides the medicine.

On point there. good advice.
yeah i don't like dead fish:) if my new NGT that i am spending $200 for dies from something like ick i would give up my hobby. not only that now that i have these smaller fish again i am forgeting how easy it is to get that stupid parasite in your tank when introducing new fish. from now on i am quarintining(sp. check) every new fish for 4 weeks.

nothing more to add but good luck and keep us updated..

my fish had ich last week..i raised the temp to 86+ and added the salt..no signs of ich anymore. be careful with the ich meds, they have been known to wipe out the fish that dont have it.

Just keep the tank temperature at 86 F as baby peas are susceptible to ich.
