i hate to do this to you guys....

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=259434

bought as orinos (from a reputable source who wishes to remain nameless)
and the head structure and occelli vs. bars seem to say orino to me.....but someone else said it may be an occell/mono (and i hate that little demon that is doubt)....

just wondering what everyone else thinks.....

i have over 20 of the little guys.....

can you get some better close up pics? im leaning more towards mono/ocell because of stripe on the tail. check the long rapps orino thread for reference. theres tons of pics in there

hehe, thanks :)

yea, after looking thru that thread you suggested jcardona1 i think they look the same. what is it about the stripe that makes you think mono/occel?

normally when a baby cichla has a tail stripe that extends far into the tail, almost to the tip, its a mono/ocell. on orinos, the stripe will barely enter the tail and stop.

also, on orinos, the spots or diamonds have very clean lines. on mono/ocell the markings seem a little more "messy" as i call it and are not a distinct shape. i was just having trouble with your pics, was a little hard to see

yea, the pics blow. in person on a few of the bass the stripes continue to the tip but on others they stop after the tail spot.

yea, i see what you mean about the spots and diamonds. i dont like to go by that tho seeing as how the fish change patterns based on activity/stress.

idk. im thinking orino.....but only time will tell for sure i guess.

hold on, lemme explain. i didnt mean you can tell them apart if they have spots vs. diamonds, becaues they each can have both. what i meant was the overall shape of the spot or diamond. in orinos the spot or diamond is very defined and has clear lines, and is a perfect shape.

in monos or ocells the spot or diamond looks "messy", and is not a pefect spot or diamond, usually looks like a smudge or a blotch. here's some pics so you can see what i mean. you can also see the tail strip. hope this helps
