I am not going to move the male out of the tank as nobody is picking on my female. With being away a bit however I did want to make sure that if my henlei has her pups while I am away that I minimize the loss of pups. I have designed this out of egg crate, 1 inch pvc, zip ties and slate to weight the thing down. This way none of the current rays can get under it to hurt the babies and I dont have to worry as much about being away. The first run did not work as my large female tore the damn thing up, but I have improved it now with more weight and 22 suction cups stuck to the bottom of the tank. 22 may sound a bit excess but when you have a 40 or 50 pound piece of muscle tearing at everything...she does not want in the tank it is better safe than sorry.

Would something like this work?

do you tie the egg crate to the PVC pipes? As i'm afraid if the bigger rays will tore the thing ..end up your pups will be trap or crush to death.. may be a few big pipes will do.. diameter big enuff for pups to swim inside...

They are zip tied to it yes. As far as the diameter. There are various pipe pieces in there between 1-1.5 inches in diameter so I think it will be fine for the pups to live under for a few days..hopefully

looks like a good idea to me tim... ive never heard of anybody doing this so do keep us posted if it works out :)

Neat idea, I'm sure the babies will find it.
