You can feed live, just make sure they're clean. I buy goldfish & minnows from local bait store.the fish are in medicated water when he dishes em out. So I know they're parasite free. I know a couple states mandate parasite free bait fish. Live leeches, sunfish, bluegill, catfish ect also is fine. Worms are a great food.

Yea wen i buy goldfish i do the same. I put them in medicated water also..but i dont really buy goldfish anymore, i jux buy minnows or worms...im thinkin bout raising convict cichlids so i would be able to feed my RPB without wasting alot of money
 
breeding convicts for feeders is a fun side project but hardly economical unless you create a breeding farm. in other words, you'd need tanks for the parents and a seperate grow out tank for the fry because the fry takes awhile to get big enough for your piranhas to eat

yea i noe, i had a pair and they had babies...then i got my LMB and he ate them lol they were as little as baby brine shrimp.
