sorry to hear your loss, as well. 
Did you check the ammonia levels in the bag? Is that why you say it was maybe ammonia??... cause one thing I do know, is that they are quite very sensative to (rapid) temperature fluctuations... can belly up in a blink of an eye... as if they had a heart attack?!! 
Just some food for thought, for your next attempt. GL!

just tested the water i mixed together- it was almost 4 pounds of water from the gfish and 5-6 pounds from my tank amonia = 2.9+ppm
no qquestion that the fish was not moving at all when i took her out of the bag
i thought it was the day old remedy of throwing um in some water and watch um come abck to life (like with my gachuas and assiaticas in the past)
i now realize i only added a squirt of amquel (maybe a 1/2tbsp at most) which would exsplain the high read out
