Baby Redtail Cat Question...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So what's the most ideal conditions to keep an rtc? I'm actually talking about in a large pond. What kind of filtration and whatnot should I get to keep up with the waste production?

I have my Redtail in a 4x12ft indoor pond with a 2200gallon Power head filter i do about at least 500-600gallons water change every two weeks. ANd yeah the wast product it produeses can turn your water quality good to bad in a heart beat. it takes time even for my filter to clean it up.

I have a 22" rtc in a 240 and I run 3 cascade 1500's 2 36 watt uv, and a 650gph dolphin powerhead with a seio 2600gph and I still have to change the tank once a week. and soon enough I am going to upgrade to a 1000 gallon.

I too am a big fan of keeping it alone in it's own 10 gal. This will ensure that even if you don't see the fish eat if the food is gone, you'll know he ate it. Plus with one that small you'll ensure he's not over competed for food. Diesel mentioned dried krill. This stuff is amazing. I have brought many small cats out of a hunger strike with this stuff. You know what you are doing and you have plenty of room for him in the future. What's the dimensions on your 1200?
