Baby RES shell coloration

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sweet. I like the color of it not to mention the price. What's the grain size like?
Grain size is pretty small, gets stirred up pretty easily, so that's one of the downsides. But it settles back down pretty fast, so I can live with it. I just have to turn off the filter whenever I work on anything inside the tank (moving decorations, planting plants, removing turtles/fish, etc), cause I hate when sand gets stuck in my filters.

Also make sure you clean it REALLY WELL before putting it in a tank.

Not fir sure but I don't think that's normal . I have 2 res and never seen a res she'll do that . Hop onto redearslider.com and post about it . The administration there Is expert on turts a d there's a lot of other helpful people there . But it looks like it might be a calcium deficiency or a uvb issue . But yea go there and you'll get a for sure answer on it :)

I found this turtle dead two days ago :\ No visible cause of death. Made me sad because although he was my cheapest turtle he was one of my favorites. But hey, it happens.
I don't think it was calcium deficiency, I give all my turtles a lot of calcium and I actually feel I should cut back a little if anything. And I'm not sure about a UVB issue, it wasn't that long ago that I replaced the bulb, and all three turtles in the tank were behaving normally and showing healthy growth. Who knows.

Could have been some sort of shell rot or a bacterial infection. When you think somethings wrong DONT ever stop asking questions . I lost my diamondback terrapin because of water quality and my spiny softshell too . I currently have 2 res 2 Mississippi Maps and a Diamondback terrapin . But even when someone tells you your over thinking or to stop worrying don't stop unless you talk to an expert or a herp vet . Those are your pets . You have a right to always be worried ! But I'm sorry to hear about losing him !

Yeah, it really sucks. He was acting totally normal that morning, too.
One thing I forgot to mention, over time the gray markings got less noticeable relatively quickly. Not sure if it was an infection or what, it was really strange. It never completely went away, but it did improve.

I'm betting it was something bacterial. Just keep an eye on the others and if anything changes or they start acting sick or won't eat and bask a lot take em to a herp vet to be on the safe side . I lost three baby Mississippi Maps to unknown causes but before they died they started acting lethargic and wouldn't eat and then eventually ended up passing away .. I got them from reptile city . I think that may have had something to do with it too . Not sure. But yea if your worried about anything just ask around on redearslider.com .

Why are you so set on directing people to other websites? There's plenty of experts on here that have experience in the trade on many levels. They just don't come on here as often because this is a fish forum and they have their own collections to tend too.

yes I know this . Wasn't so intent on sending them to another site. Just said that Steve (the admin) is very good when it comes to turtles . Someone told him not to worry about the turtle and it ended up dying I told the person to avoid that ask more questions so he doesn't lose any.ore pets . They mean a lot to people I'm sure it really upset him to lose a turtle cause I know it hurt me when my softshell died . So if I think there's something wrong I'm gunna ask all kinds if questions. Just said that site cause that's legit mostly all they talk about is turtles so if anyone would know it would be them . Never said no one here knew anything about turtles but someone told him his turtle was fine and it died so they apparently didn't know or just didn't wanna tell the person what was wrong. I know I wouldnt wanna lose my pets.
