Expecting to purchase one soon. Any ideas on what to feed it as a juvinile.

Please no comments referring to how large it will grow, I am well aware of tht and still plan on taking full responsibility when tht time comes.

Thanks

Shrimp, fish filets, silversides, earthworms, Massivore, Algae wafers. Feed a good variety, and never feed live, because it's not at all necessary, and carries too many risks.

I know that you asked me not to say anything, but if you aren't even willing to do a search on this site to find the answer to this question, which has been asked many, many times, I wonder how motivated you'll be to provide for this fast-growing, demanding fish. Just something to think about. There's a lot involved, and a lot of research to do.

So you know how big it can get? Well how about how fast it will get that big?

If well fed, you can expect it to easily surpass 18" in a year.

They'll eat just about anything

It's hard to believe these little fish grow so big. Saw a 4" at the LFS today. If I wasn't responsible, I would have bought it, it looked so cool!

I got a 3" one about a month and half to two months ago, its now pushing 8-10" - It's a little monster.

I fed it blood worms, raw shrimp, raw tilapia, hikari carnivore, and now massivore. It eats everything in sight.

Seriously though, if you're tank size isn't in the triple digits, that baby at the LFS is already too big for it.

Shrimp , muscles, earth worms..... not a bad idea to feed them small whole shrimp, crab or fish ect ... good for them to eat bones ..bums, eyes and shells !! As they would in the wild ...... try and vary the diet as much as possible ... i always fed the small kittys like this to give them the best grounding possible and as they get bigger ...obviously cost becomes an issue ! But if they have a good sound grounding with proper feeding i think it helps give the correct nutrients they need to stay heathly all foods were raw and not the cooked variety ! .....

I've seen frozen catfish at my grocery store before - its in big chunks, looks like it was made for deep frying, but its just raw catfish. Do you think that'd be ok to feed to fish, or should I stick with the tilapia and raw shrimp?

along the notes above, i got mine at about 5 1/2" 2 months ago,hes over 8" now. and so far the best food i have found for him is frozen krill. it brings out the reds big time and massivoire pellets although if he gets his eye on a feeder dnt try to stop him
