I don't know if it's a real big deal but my lung loved the shallow water. It would just lift it's head to breath, minimal enegry expended. The growth rate was unbeliavable...............so was the poop!

Mine loved cut up earth worms/night crawlers. You should lower the water level to about half in that tank so the lung wont have to swim so much to breath. When mine was small I had an area in the tank built up so one end was only 3" deep. The rest of the tank was maybe a foot deep. My little guy use to spend all his time at the upper spot until he was a foot long or so.........
It seemed like over night it grew from 3" to 18 inches lol. They grow fast!

yes'um...it feels like i got mine last week at 3" and it is now over 12"...it just keeps growing...it loves to come up and eat hikari food sticks...

Should I put some floating plants in the tank for him to hang out in?

i had some plants for mine and it stays in the plants much easier on the fish...it now spends 75% of the time in the root ball of my pothoes plant

After reading some of this responce , I'm wondering if my 20 gallon long aquarium is too deep for my 8 inch lungfish ? Yes , I will be moving it up to a bigger tank when it reaches 14 inches .

Hey bamboo. Got any pics yet? Mine was probably about 5" when I got it. Not to hijack your thread, but check out my post here. I feed mine tiny pieces of tilapia, market shrimp, and sinking pellets.

Very cool thread ... It looks like mine . Local store has a 2 1/2 footer ( south american ) for $225 . I've been tempted but I think I'll just enjoy the one I have and keep looking for a marbled and gilled .
