Baby Sturgeon at LFS. Guess on likely species?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They don't grow as fast as an oscar or Redtail Cat, but 100g should last you enough time to build the pond. Remember that they are sturgeon, so they may look like they fit in the tank fine, but they really need swimming room and lots of oxygen to stay healthy and happy. I have mine in my basement, and don't need a chiller for it. in WA unless its like right in the middle of august or something, you probably wont need it, and quiet frankly even then because it would be a gradual temp change (make sure your ponds deep enough to allow for slow temp changes) it would probably be fine without a chiller.
(before I say that, where in WA are you?)

sturgeon over 12" would be cramped in a 100g but they grow slow like 1" every months for sterlet is what i've seen alot of online. but i've personaly had them grow at around 1" per month

He did say 100g then to a 500g... so it probably wouldn't reach 12" in the 100... also why i suggested that even though the sturgeon looks like it should fit in the tank, they need extra swimming room...

And yup, you wont need a chiller over here. Just make your pond a bit on the deep side, so id doesn't freeze solid in the winter and get too warm in the summer. It'll be fine.
