baby sturgeon feeding?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i'll get pix up soon. and since their mouth is on the underside of their body they have a hard time eating floating pellets.

Hi everyone I was just at the LFS and they had baby sterlot sturgon and i bought 2 wanting to put them in my outside pond. im reading your post because i bought frozen brine shrimp and pellets and they didnt look interested in either. so im really interested in the live worms please let me know how that turns out.

I believe they meant that they are baby shovelnose sturgeon. There is many varieties of sturgeon out there. Shovelnose sturgeon will be the most common sturgeon you will find out there...and you will never get your hand on a green sturgeon. :)

ive had good luck with bloodworms in the past

the problem is, i cant get them to eat anything BUT bloodworms

Actually shovelnose sturgeon are the least likely sturgeon you will see in a pet store. While shovelnose are probably the best pick for aquarium keeping they are almost never sold into the trade and most fish are white or green (well maybe not green) or some other large cold water sturgeon. European Sterlets are far more likely than shovelnose to be seen in north America.

I just received two baby sturgeon two weeks ago and they seem to eat everything ive tried except guppies which includes frozen brine shrimp frozen bloodworms 2mm pellets from kens fish and tropical flake they do come to the top for the flakes theyre constantly moving and they stick their snouts out of the water and are able to grab the flakes HTH Mike.

I had good luck feeding shovelnose sturgeon on live daphnia, live black worms, Hikari micro pellets, and of course live blood worms...
